Engrained in the culture, Glimcher places a premium on giving back. Through service, leadership, financial gifts and unique mall programs, the company is continuously redefining community support and empowering its associates to identify new opportunities for community engagement.
Since its inception, the mall has been considered a central gathering place in the community. Glimcher believes with that comes a responsibility to be an active member of the community and a commitment to service.
Glimcher properties are proud to present Sensitive Santa®, a program designed to allow children with sensory processing disorders to visit Santa in a safe and calm environment. Held on a Sunday morning prior to the malls' opening, with reduced lighting and noise, this event is a joint effort between each mall's staff, Worldwide Photography and local autism societies and organizations.
With approximately one in every 150 children affected by autism spectrum disorder, it can be very difficult for these families to enjoy some of the holiday celebrations and traditions most people take for granted, including simple things like visiting with Santa in a busy shopping center.
First presented in 2008 at Dayton Mall, Sensitive Santa® was launched as part of the mall's Magical Season of Giving and in support of the Autism Society of Dayton. Glimcher rolled out the annual Sensitive Santa® program to 21 malls across its portfolio in 2010.
Each back-to-school season, Glimcher malls present Earning for Learning. This fund-raising program enables local schools to earn cash prizes by collecting points. Points are earned each time a shopper presents his or her store receipts at the mall. One point is awarded for every dollar spent. Shoppers designate to which school their points should be awarded, and the schools collecting the most points win cash prizes.
Since 1998, Glimcher malls have presented Magical Night of Giving to kick off the holiday season and support local non-profit organizations. The centers offer a night of exclusive savings, special offers, family-oriented activities and holiday entertainment. Participating organizations are able to sell tickets to the event, keeping 100% of the proceeds. More than $4.5 million have been raised since the inception of the program.
